Salvation Army Appreciation Banquet

On February 25, 2015, our local Salvation Army held on appreciation banquet for organizations from the community who assisted them by manning the kettles from Thanksgiving until Christmas 2014.

Attending from the Rotary Club of Shady Brook were Past Club President Irv Perlstein and his wife Wendy. The Shady Brook Club collected $2,300. which was good for 2nd place behind the Bristol Rotary Club’s $3,000. Pictured are Wendy Perlstein and Salvation Army Captain Jud Laidlaw.

William Dick School – Student-of-the-Month – Honorary Member Initiation

The Rotary Club of Shady Brook held the monthly dinner meeting on February 18, 2015 at the Garden of Eatin. The guest speaker was Amy Williams the Principal of the William Dick School in northwest Philadelphia. She related the impact that our donations have made on the students over the past year. We have provided winter coats, backpacks, school books, various office supplies including cases of copy paper. We will continue to support the school in the coming year. Also on the agenda was our presentation of our “STUDENT OF THE MONTH” award. this month it was presented to Joey Wicher an 8th grader at the Maple Point Middle School. Joey spoke to the members on her school activities. Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

On Saturday, October 25, 2014, the Rotary Club of Shady Brook members, their families and friends participated in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “LIGHT THE NIGHT” annual event at the Bucks Community College campus. Thanks to Phil Huber for heading up this years fundraising and to the members of his family who added their participation. With Phil’s leadership, we made our goal of $3000. It was a wonderful and inspiring evening showing those with Blood Cancers that people care and that someday we may wipe out all forms of Cancer. Thanks to Wendy Perlstein for the cookies and cake she provided before the walk and to the ever dedicated Mayor of Route One, Irv Perlstein who had posters made of my son Charles who is a Cancer Survivor and in the memory of the daughter of Dolly and the late Maurice Sokol, Linda Sokol Greenberg. At our dinner meeting on October 22, 2014, the Rotary Club of Shady Brook presented our current “STUDENT OF THE MONTH” award to Even Brooks, an 8th grader at the Maple Point Middle School. He excelled in both sports and academics and was joined at the dinner by his family. Pictured are Club President Alan Agree and Evan Brooks.

Donation to Parkinson Foundation

At a resent meeting the Rotary Club of Shady Brook presented a check for $2,000. to The Parkinson Council. This was part of the proceeds from our latest Golf Tournament. Pictured are Alan Agree Club President, Wendy R. Lewis Executive Director of The Parkinson Council and Irv Perlstein Past President and Golf Tournament Chair. Our next Tournament is scheduled for June 29,2015 at the Philmont Country Club.

Helping Out at Hope Lodge

On September 4, 2014, the Rotary Club Of Shady Brook provided dinner for the patients and caregivers residing at the Hope Lodge in Philadelphia. Hope Lodge provides free lodging for anyone receiving treatment at local hospitals. Shady Brook Rotary does this 3-4 time a year.
